Car won't start - what to check first
When a car won't start, the fault almost always sits in one of three places - the battery, the starter, or the ignition/fuel system.
Possible causes
- A flat or worn battery - the single most common cause, especially in cold weather
- A faulty starter motor or relay - one click and nothing, or no sound at all
- An ignition or fuel system fault - the engine cranks but won't fire up
Working out which system has failed before ordering a part saves both time and money. Our catalogue carries tested used and new parts for all three.
