The intercooler cools compressed air from the turbocharger before it reaches the engine — cooler air is denser, which improves combustion efficiency and power.
An intercooler cools the charge air and is distinct from both the turbocharger and the engine radiator. Compare dimensions, hose positions, brackets and part reference. Read the condition information for fins and connections. Hoses, sensors and additional brackets are only included when the listing expressly says so.
If you notice any of the following, the part likely needs replacement:
Noticeable loss of power, especially under sustained hard acceleration
Whistling or hissing noise (boost leak) from a cracked intercooler
Oil residue at the intercooler (from a failing turbo, not the intercooler itself)
Installation information
Mounted with brackets, usually behind the front bumper — connect all pipes with clamps and check for leaks after installation.

A struggling or undersized intercooler can’t keep up with heat soak during sustained high-boost driving (e.g. on a track or long uphill pull), letting intake air temperatures rise and reducing power — this is sometimes called heat soak.
