The fan clutch (viscous coupling) engages and disengages a belt-driven cooling fan based on engine temperature, common on trucks and some older or heavy-duty vehicles.

Engine overheating, especially at low speed or idle
Loud fan noise that doesn’t change with engine speed (fan stuck engaged)
Poor fuel economy from a fan stuck engaged
Installation information
Bolts to the water pump pulley — check the fan blade spins freely by hand (with the engine off) after installation.
