Is it dangerous to drive with a fault affecting this airbag?

Yes, this is one of the most critical safety systems in the vehicle — a non-functioning driver airbag removes essential frontal collision protection, so this should be repaired immediately.

Is this a DIY-friendly repair?

No, working with airbags requires specific safety knowledge and specialised procedures — this should be handled by a qualified technician.

What is this component made of?

Signs of a faulty part

If you notice any of the following, the part likely needs replacement:

Airbag warning light on the dashboard
Horn not working (often wired through the same steering wheel connections)
Diagnostic fault code related to this airbag circuit

Installation information

Requires the steering wheel to be partially disassembled — always follow correct safety procedures when working near the airbag system, including disconnecting the battery and letting the vehicle sit before starting work.

Frequently asked questions

The horn switch is often integrated into the same steering wheel pad as the airbag, sharing wiring through the clock spring — a fault there can affect both.

No complaints about Evro Trans itself, everything's fine. But the delivery..... It felt like the order was being carried by turtles. 4 days from Riga to Daugavpils. Judging by the tracking, the parcel just sat somewhere behind a shed for 3 days, then they found it and delivered it the next day. I think that's why I won't be ordering there again.

Bought a front fender for my car. I liked it! After payment they sent more than 20 photos of the problem areas, and it was packed very securely - took a while to unwrap.
