What is this part and why does it matter?

The vacuum pump generates vacuum for the brake booster and other systems, used on engines (like many diesels) that don’t naturally produce enough vacuum from intake operation alone.

Signs of a faulty part

If you notice any of the following, the part likely needs replacement:

  • Increased brake pedal effort
  • Whining or grinding noise from the pump
  • Check Engine light with a vacuum-related fault code

Installation information

Driven off the camshaft or a dedicated belt, requires draining any lubricating oil the pump uses before removal on some designs.

Frequently asked questions

Diesel engines don’t throttle intake air the way petrol engines do, so they don’t naturally generate the vacuum needed for the brake booster — a dedicated pump provides it instead.

  • No complaints about Evro Trans itself, everything's fine. But the delivery..... It felt like the order was being carried by turtles. 4 days from Riga to Daugavpils. Judging by the tracking, the parcel just sat somewhere behind a shed for 3 days, then they found it and delivered it the next day. I think that's why I won't be ordering there again.
