Why does replacing the windscreen require recalibrating driver-assistance systems?

Even a small change in the camera’s angle relative to the road throws off how accurately it reads lane markings and objects, which matters for how these safety systems work.

Can a small chip be repaired instead of a full replacement?

Yes, for small chips outside the driver’s line of sight, a special resin repair can often stop a crack spreading further.

What’s the windscreen made of?

Laminated safety glass, which holds broken fragments together on an inner film rather than shattering completely.

What is this part and why does it matter?

The windscreen provides forward visibility and is part of the body’s structural strength, often carrying driver-assistance sensors.

A windscreen needs the correct body application and provisions for cameras, sensors, heating and other equipment. Inspect photographs of its surface and edges and confirm the reference. Have the installer assess fitting conditions and any checks or calibration needed for that vehicle. A similar outline does not confirm the complete specification.

Signs of a faulty part

If you notice any of the following, the part likely needs replacement:

Cracks or chips in the glass
Cloudiness or delamination of the laminated glass
A driver-assistance system fault after damage (where fitted)

Installation information

Needs specialist equipment and experience to fit, seal correctly and, if there’s a camera, calibrate the systems afterward.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, it’s serious — the windscreen is part of the body’s structural strength, important in a rollover, and a crack reduces both visibility and strength, so replace it immediately.

No complaints about Evro Trans itself, everything's fine. But the delivery..... It felt like the order was being carried by turtles. 4 days from Riga to Daugavpils. Judging by the tracking, the parcel just sat somewhere behind a shed for 3 days, then they found it and delivered it the next day. I think that's why I won't be ordering there again.

Bought a front fender for my car. I liked it! After payment they sent more than 20 photos of the problem areas, and it was packed very securely - took a while to unwrap.
